At first we were very reluctant to put our paper online, because we depend on income from the paper sales. Our news stand price is $1.50 so it deeply concerned us thinking our readers would just read our paper online for free instead of buying the paper. Wehaa developed a program that requires an annual paid subscription to view our paper online. To avoid sharing the password, the Wehaa team developed a dynamic access code concept, which is delivered to the subscriber’s email account each time the subscriber wishes to view our paper. Then the dynamic access code is only good for two hours. One of the biggest benefits that Wehaa has given us is our ability to archive papers on our website. We get several calls each day from people wanting back issues. Now we can point them to our website where they can search for keywords, then download the issues they want for $5 per issue. It not only saves us valuable labor formerly required to search back issues, but it has been a revenue generator for us as well. By having our paper online, it compliments our mailed subscription service. We provide free online service to our paid subscribers. Now they don’t have to wait on the mailman. They can easily view our weekly paper every Friday morning by 6:00 a.m. – the same time that single copy readers have it available on news stands. We have also been able to save labor costs because our readers can now place ads online. We offer a $10 discount if customers place their own ads online rather than by phone.
